Newspaper report from 1967 John Heuston rescues children While Mr. John Huston, the film director, and a party of six which included Mr. Eoin O'Mahony, Dr. Conor O'Malley, and Dr. W.O'Keeffe, Galway, were having an oyster supper in Michael Moran's famous thatched premises at the Weir, Kilcolgan, beside Galway Bay, last night there was a loud explosion and all the lights went out. Screams were heard coming from the house next door where Joseph Moran, brother of Michael Moran, and his wife and six children live. On rushing out the party found that Joseph Moran's two story slated house had been partially demolished after being struck by lighting. They immediately went to the rescue of the Moran family and found them all unhurt except the eldest daughter Pauline who was slightly burned about the face.
