Woman's Realm, 06 Feb 1994 Glorious
Galway For stunning scenery and great food, pay a visit to Ireland's wild and beautiful Atlantic coast. County Galway is steeped in romantic history and awash with surprises. Take Moran's on the Weir, for example. It's a remarkable seafood restaurant but, geographically speaking, hardly the hub of the universe. Yet the great and the good, the famous and the powerful all find their way there. To reach it, you head east from Galway City, turn right at Oranmore, right again when you're through Clarenbridge, down a wiggly road to a thatched cottage that's been gazing out at teh Dunkellin river for two centuries. That's Moran's. Superb seafood is prepared by Willie Moran who was born on the premises and whose family have lived there for many generations. Oysters from the family oyster bed are his speciality; he serves them faster than most because he was twice world oyster opening champion....
