Mick McCarthy won 57 caps for the Republic of Ireland. He made his international debut, in defence, against Poland in 1984. McCarthy continued to represent Ireland with distinction until he brought an end to his international career in 1992. He became Jack Charlton's successor as Republic of Ireland soccer team manager in February 1996.
